Make Grapefruit Gem Juice

Grapefruit Drink in glasses on marble table

Description

The ruby red grapefruit is a true gem when it comes to all the amazing health benefits this simple fruit has to offer.

Just one a day is all it takes to get the maximum benefits and when pressed in a cold press juicer it is easy super easy to do. Winter is the perfect time of year as they are extra juicy and ripe at the moment.

When juiced the taste is actually sweet with a slightly bitter and tart flavour from the pith. Make sure you leave it on!

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 ruby red grapefruit

Juicing Time: 1 minute
Juice Qty: 150ml

Tip: select grapefruits that are heavy for their size, it's an indication of juiciness.

I juiced two different grapefruits and extracted 150ml from one and 175ml from the second.

Preparation

Grapefruit

  • Remove the outer skin keeping as much white pith as possible

  • Cut into halves or quarters to fit into the wide chute

Method

To collect the maximum juice close the cap and start with the juice jug under the pulp outlet. The first piece you place into the juicer will have some juice come through the pulp outlet and we want to catch that extra juice.

Once pulp starts coming through move the juice jug back under the cap and put the pulp jug in place to catch the pulp.

Add the remaining pieces and release the smart cap to let the juice out.

I find if you cut the grapefruit into 4 quarters then each piece will push through the juicer nice and easy.

Health Benefits

Grapefruits are exceptional fruits that have very strong anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. They are a great source of vitamin C and bioflavonoids which help to boost the immune system and prevent aging, illness, and disease.

Perfect fruit for winter juicing.

The Ruby Red grapefruits target the heart and blood. They help clear plaque from arteries and help lower blood pressure. Galacturonic acid (found only in grapefruit) has the ability to break up and dislodge fatty plaque buildup in the arteries and remove it completely from the body

Grapefruit juice also eases constipation and improves digestion by increasing the flow of gastric juices.

Research shows that pectin fibres (still in the juice), reduces appetite which can assist with weight loss and can lower cholesterol.

Grapefruit pectin also reduces the accumulation of atherosclerotic plaque in people afflicted with atherosclerosis and strengthens blood vessels and capillaries.

Grapefruit juice helps reduce fever and soothes coughs and sore throats. Consumed at night, grapefruit juice promotes sleep and alleviates insomnia.

Used externally, fresh grapefruit is a natural antiseptic and can be used to help disinfect and heal wounds and abrasions.
