How to make Sunflower Seed Milk in your Kuvings Cold Press Juicer

a field of sunflowers

Homemade sunflower seed milk is a fantastic option for those seeking a plant-based alternative to dairy or nut-based milks. Sunflower seeds offer a budget-friendly and nutrient-rich option, and preparing the milk at home ensures it remains free from any commercial additives like emulsifiers, artificial sweeteners, and thickeners.

Soaking the seeds before making the milk is essential.

It's important to note that, like some homemade plant-based milks, sunflower seed milk may separate in the fridge. However, a simple shake or stir will quickly restore it to its milky consistency.

To maintain the freshness and quality of the milk, store it in a sealed glass bottle in the fridge and consume it within 3-4 days.

Sunflower Seed milk has a sweet nutty taste.

Ingredients

1 cup Sunflower Seeds (soaked)

2 cups Water (filtered)

1 tbsp Maple Syrup

1 pinch Sea Salt

Preparation

Sunflower Seeds

  • Place sunflower seeds in a small bowl and cover with water.

  • Allow to soak for 8 hrs or overnight.

  • The nuts will plump as they absorb water and should feel a little squishy if you pinch them.

Note: You can leave seeds soaking for up to 24 hours.

Method

  1. Discard the water used to soak the sunflower seeds over night.

  2. On your Kuvings Cold Press Juicer ensure the smart cap is closed.

  3. Add 1/4 of the soaked seeds to the wide juicer chute using a big spoon or ladle.

  4. Add half the filtered water.

  5. Repeat adding 1/4 seeds and half water until done. Allow the juicer to run until the pulp stops coming out of the juicer.

  6. Place Kuvings Pulp Strainer over the juice jug.

  7. Release the sunflower milk into the juice jug and add the maple syrup and sea salt.

  8. Give it a good stir before drinking or storing in the fridge for later.

Tip

Use the Kuvings Pulp Strainer to catch the milk as it is released. It has a super fine mesh to remove any fine pulp from the milk. If you don’t have a Kuivngs strainer for your juicer you can use a nut bag with a very tight weave.
