Make Frozen Watermelon Margaritas

Description

The boss is finally letting me write a alcoholic recipe so here’s one I have made monthly since the start of COVID. Perfect for the start or end of the night, these frozen margs will cool you off on these summer nights. Chop up some fresh watermelon and throw it in the freezer the night before you make the margs—this ensures the drinks are perfectly slushy and ICE cold.

With a drink like this, we think the garnishes are just as important as the cocktail itself. You can rim the glass with salt and garnish with mini watermelon slices and lime like we did. Or, you can go all out and rim the glass with a mixture of sugar and citric acid and garnish with watermelon sour candies for a sweet and sour twist, a la Boozy Sour Watermelon Slushies

Ingredients (4 Servings)

FOR RIM

  • 2 tbsp. salt

  • 1 tbsp. sugar

  • Zest of 1 lime

  • Lime wedge

FOR DRINK

  • 4 cup chopped watermelon

  • 1/4 cup lime juice

  • 1/2 cup silver tequila

  • 1/4 cup triple sec

  • 4 watermelon slices, for garnish

  • 4 lime rounds, for garnish

Method

  1. Place watermelon on a large baking sheet and freeze until hardened, at least 2 hours.

  2. Combine salt, sugar, and lime zest on a small plate and stir to combine. Use lime wedge to wet rim of margarita glasses then dip rims in salt mixture.

  3. In a blender, combine frozen watermelon, lime juice, tequila, and triple sec and blend until smooth. Pour into rimmed glasses and garnish with a watermelon and lime round.

Enjoy!
